SIKESTON - A man police believe to be from the Caruthersville area has been arrested for the armed robbery of the Hardee's restaurant at 1105 South Main.

Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden said shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday his department responded to a report of a lone gunman described as a black male entering the restaurant's lobby and demanding money.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash the gunman fled on foot, according to Juden.

Using information about the path reportedly taken by the robber, the department's new canine unit and a second canine unit, DPS investigators tracked the suspect to a residence near the corner of Warner and Hardin where some rolled coins and loose change in the street were recovered. A search of the area revealed a black male subject on foot who was interviewed by DPS detectives and released.

Upon further investigation including a photo lineup, the subject who was previously interviewed was identified by a Hardee's employee as being the robber.

Following some additional investigation, the suspect identified in the photo lineup and previously interviewed was located and arrested. A subsequent search of the residence he was arrested at revealed the remaining cash from the robbery hidden in a plastic pumpkin.

The suspect's name is being withheld pending the filing of formal charges.

Juden said the investigation is continuing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
