THEBES, Ill. - Irlene Genevieve Groves, 77, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Nov. 12, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 19, 1926, in Benton, Ill., daughter of the late Oliver P. and Edith Cruson Farley, she lived at Thebes for more than 30 years and was a member of the Trinity Free Pentecostal Church of Charleston. She had been employed as a licensed practical nurse at St. Francis Medical Center and was later a private duty nurse.
In April 1947, she married Clyde Groves who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, David Groves of Thebes; one daughter, Joyce Kay Samples of Woodburg, Ore.; three brothers, G.R. "Jim" Farley of Athens, Ga., Paul Farley of Jefferson City, Mo., and Wendell Farley of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, June House of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Groves; one daughter, Deanne Prater; and three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bill Gadberry of Morley, Mo., will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
