Class 2 State Championships
JEFFERSON CITY -- Charleston garnered points on both the boys and girls side at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Track Championships held at Lincoln University in Jefferson City on Friday and Saturday.
The Bluejays' Myron Pettigrew and Markita Whitney both medaled in the 200-
Whitney, the lone entry for the Charleston girls, finished second in 26.14 seconds. The junior sprinter's eight points placed Charleston in a tie for 28th in the final team standings.
The senior Pettigrew also finished second with a time of 22.76, after posting the fastest qualifying time of 22.57 on Friday.
Charleston's 4 x 400 relay team of Pettigrew, Ashton Farmer, Joseph Watts and Marquez Ware placed fourth with a time of 3:31.87.
In a near photo-finish final, Charleston was a mere .19 seconds off the third-
place pace and just .53 behind the second-place team.
The Charleston boys finished tied for 22nd in the final team scores with 13 points.
Area qualifiers Michael Glastetter, Rachel Kline and Lydia Thomure fell short of medaling.
Kelly's Glastetter, a fourth-place medalist in the 800-meter run last year, finished 13th.
Kline, also of Kelly and a state returnee, finished 14th in the high jump at 4 feet-8 inches.
East Prairie's Thomure, in her initial state appearance, was 14th in the triple jump at 29-11.25.
The top eight in each event earn medals.
