Speakout 8/25

Sunday, August 25, 2002

I'm calling about the little boy who wants to be in movies. I'm sure he's a very talented little boy and polite and all that, but the family needs to watch who they're dealing with. Those talent agencies sometimes take people for rides and cost them a lot of money. The talent industries are out to make money, not to help anyone but themselves.

I read in the paper about the little boy wanting to go to Hollywood. I think it's just great, but they also failed to say in there that there's a $300 fee for getting pictures made up in St. Louis. He's one in a million. At the time the pictures are made, there are about 50 people or more getting their pictures made up here. This company is really making money. People, beware because I am one of them that they ripped off.

The condition of the burned out house at the corner of Ruth and Olive streets in Sikeston has been reported to the code enforcement, city council members personally and today when I called about it, the girl just banged the phone down in my ear. The house had burned and was boarded up and then it burned again. With school starting, I'm concerned about our children's safety.

This is in response to the Aug. 14 SpeakOut "Mr. Cowboy and his boots." Come on, caller. Can't you do better than that? This man did put on the best rodeo ever here in Sikeston and I guess that seems to be the problem. Are you jealous? You would be more than welcome to come out and give it a shot yourself. Instead of criticism on the nit-picky things in life, that you haven't yourself really been educated on, would it not be a lot nicer to say, "Congratulations, Mr. Chairman and to the rest of the Jaycees in Sikeston" who dedicated a lot of time and hard work for the community instead of taking your time to come up with a lot of childish criticism? It only shows you're not educated enough to speak on the same lines of western attire or the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo.

I'm pretty upset right now at Southwest Elementary School. They allowed my 10-year-old son to get on a bus after I specifically told the teacher face to face that he was to be a car-rider today. I'd also like to know what's going on in the superintendent's office? How come they're never around when you try to get ahold of them? And why do they not return your phone calls?

This is a very upset grandmother of four grandchildren. I would like for you to call Grandma Brenda and let me know how everything is going at home. Also, I would appreciate it if you will let me know when you plan to get married or anything. I do love you.

If George Bush is so hell-bent to go to Iraq after Saddam Hussein, let him lead, in an general's uniform, the whole contingent up to Saddam Hussein's residence. What is to stop a person of Iraqi persuasion from arriving in a boat or submarine and using a container of germ warfare to open and spread in a large place where it would kill a million people, while we are busy fighting in Iraq?
