SIKESTON - A mayor, county collector, editor and constable are among 68 men who reported Friday night at the Armory for the first session of the voluntary auxiliary highway patrol.
SIKESTON - Good Spellers: Sikeston winners in the district spelling matches held Saturday at Cape Girardeau Saturday were: Martha Bess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bess, first place; Mary Beth Leible, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Leible, second place; and Lana Dacus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sibert Dacus, fourth place. All three winners are eighth grade students. Martha and Mary Beth are eligible for the competition on the state level to be held the latter part of May.
SIKESTON - The Department of Public Safety has scheduled a public auction for 9 a.m. May 8 to sell unclaimed items and used equipment. DPS officials said approximately 46 bicycles and numerous bicycle parts will be auctioned off. Other items include a concrete saw, sand spreader, wacker packer, Hain-Warner 2-ton floor jack and several other items.
SIKESTON - Fred Glover of Sikeston was the winner of a ham raffle held at the Canalou Head Start. Tomicha Applewhite, daughter of Otis and Minnie Applewhite of Sikeston is the center's student who sold the winning ticket to Glover.
CHARLESTON - The Charleston High School home economics class held a mock wedding to raise $400 for the March of Dimes. The bride for the event was Latosha Reed while Leroy Atkins was the groom. The Rev. Danny Tackett "joined the couple in wedlock."
SIKESTON - Bizzell Lawn Care donated a tree to the fourth grade class at Southeast Missouri Elementary School in honor of Earth Day.
