Speakout 4/29

If the new elementary school goes through in New Madrid County, there is no way a young child will reach school who lives south of Morehouse by Tractor Supply with less than two hours on a bus. It takes over an hour, driving in a car going the speed limit. Missouri state law says a student shouldn't be on a bus over 75 minutes one way to school.

I want to SpeakOut about the Matthews School that they're trying to get out. I think it would really be a bad thing to do. I was raised in that district. They would get a lot more money if they don't transfer to New Madrid, going 13 more miles. Parents will be worried about their children, especially in bad weather, and it would sure hurt the little town and the business there. Leave it there. That's what the people want.

Obey leash law

This is a homeowner down on Pin Oak. It's a shame we have to keep our dogs tied up and penned up. As a homeowner, I feel that we have certain obligations and rules we need to go by. This dog is going to bite somebody some day and there's going to be a problem. It needs to be addressed to the proper person.

To the person who wanted liquid embroidery, you can find it in the Ben Franklin Store in Dexter.

In answer to the "Crafter's needs," Hobby Lobby in Cape Girardeau has liquid embroidery you are looking for. Ben Franklin in Dexter and St. Louis also has it. To reiterate a recent comment, why don't we have a Hobby Lobby or Ben Franklin in Sikeston? Wal-Mart sure doesn't have a good craft area and there are a lot of large, empty stores.

Why in the world are the trash pickup people out at 2:30 a.m. picking up trash?

We called Sonny's Solid Waste. Their workers usually get started between 3:30 and 4 a.m. unless there is a special condition with the landfill that requires them to start earlier.

It upsets me to know how our system works. We don't have money to run prisons, hire guards and they're supposed to be taken everywhere. Let me just say there is no reason why our tax dollars should pay for somebody to sit over there in jail for driving without a license, drunk driving, breaking and entering. I think they need to put these people to work. Instead of building prisons and places like that, they need to maybe buy Procter and Gamble and put these people to work. Why should we have to work five days a week and some have to take a second job when they sit there, watch digital TV, are provided cigarettes, provided three meals a day, provided heat and cooling and they get to sit on their butts all day. I think we need to put them to work picking up paper along the highway, doing something to benefit society instead of sitting on their cans.
