DEXTER - Action was fast and furious as the Dexter Bearcats wrestling team hosted the New Madrid County Central Eagles and backed into a 36-30 win Thursday night before the home fans.

New Madrid defeated Dexter four matches to two, but the Eagles were unable to field wrestlers in several weight classes giving the Bearcats the winning margin with forfeit points.

"We didn't match up with them very well," Dexter coach Aaron Pixley said after the match. "There were a couple of disappointing matches in there. I don't know if we were really ready. Some of them (Dexter wrestlers) learned a good lesson and we made a few mistakes out there that they capitalized on.

"Some of our good kids didn't have matches tonight so it might have looked a little different if they had," Pixley continued. "It's good to get a win, but at the same time when you don't wrestle real well it kind of hurts a little bit. We've just got to come back and have a great practice tomorrow and go to Park Hills Saturday and wrestle better."

Dexter will next be in action Saturday at the Park Hills Invitational Tournament.

Jordan Sielert continued his winning streak after finishing sixth at the super-tough Tiger Classic Dec. 18. Sielert, wrestling in the 130 lb. weight class, defeated NMCC's Martez Bobo by pin in the first period after going undefeated at the recent Herrin Duals and Hancock Invitational held Dec. 29-30.

"We wrestled pretty good at the two tournaments we went to," Pixley commented on his team's recent two-day road trip for back-to-back tournaments. "We're very capable of wrestling good in spots, but tonight we didn't have our best night. We'll definitely have to wrestle better than that Saturday at Park Hills. It's a tough tournament with some good tough teams and they'll present a real good challenge for us. We'll need to wrestle better and make sure our minds our right going in."

On the season Dexter is 5-3-2 in dual matches.

Mikey Henley (112 lb.) got Dexter off on the right foot when he pinned his opponent, Maywonn Gates, in the second period of their match.

Joey Moore (119 lb.), Justin McCollough (135 lb.), Nick Lillard (145 lb.) and Eric Grimes (152 lb.) all received forfeits for the Bearcats.

Dexter's Michael Fisher (160 lb.) lost to Delanio Taylor by pin in one of the evening's best action match. Both Fisher and Taylor held the upper hand on different occasions, but it was Taylor who managed the pin with only seconds remaining in the second period.

Dexter's Ryan Walker (171 lb.) lost to Ryan Fowler and Michael Spencer (189 lb.) lost to Jeremy Brooks in other contested matches.

Teams received six points for a pin and six points for a forfeit. No match went to points to be decided.
