EAST PRAIRIE - Alton Lenord Horton, 90, died at 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2004, in the Charleston Manor Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1914, in Steele, son of the late Lester Lenord "Gad" and Annie Eugenia Johnson Horton, he had lived most of his life in Mississippi County where he was a retired farmer.
A member of the First Church of God in East Prairie, he had served on the Board of Trustees, was a Sunday school teacher and had served as Sunday school superintendent.
On Oct. 11, 1940, at Portageville, he married Verla Virginia Hogue who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Barry Wayne and Glendora Martin Horton of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonya Rea and Ralph Shupe of Oak Hill, W.Va.; one sister, Lavern Givens of East Prairie; four grandchildren, Monica Goodin of Charleston, Brent Horton of Scott City, Tessie S. Kempen of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Emily Shupe of Oak Hill; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in the First Church of God with Rob Kespelher officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Bailey, James Hogue, Doug Hutcheson, Charles Lingle, Billy Greenwood and Frank Hanor.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Shirley Chambers, Bill Johnson, Jack Britt and Bill Marshall.
