PORTAGEVILLE - Leora Newman, 86, formerly of Morehouse and Sikeston, died at 7:30 p.m., April 22, 2007, at the Portageville Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 20, 1920, in Canalou, to the late Leslie and Coela Greer Arbuckle, she taught foods and nutrition for 20 years for the University of Missouri Extension office in Benton. She was a member of the Morehouse Church of Christ and attended the Portageville Church of Christ. She was a member of Kingsway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Sikeston, belonged to the McMullin Extension Club and was a volunteer for a number of years at the Dexter Senior Center.
On Feb. 25, 1939, at New Madrid, she married Phillip L. Newman, who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1991.
Four brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip T. and Susan Newman of New Madrid; one daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Larry Prince of Portageville; one sister, Norma Busby of Lilbourn; and two grandsons, Ryan Barks of Carthage and Jon Newman of New Madrid.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Jimmy Colvett, minister at Matthews Church of Christ, will officiate. He will be assisted by Jerry Anderson, minister of the Portageville Church of Christ.
Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
