One charged in irrigation pipe theft

Sunday, July 8, 2007

CARUTHERSVILLE - One person was arrested in connection with the theft of aluminum irrigation pipe, just north of Hayti.

Michael Six, of Portageville, will be arraigned Monday before Judge Byron Luber on charges of felony stealing, a Class C felony. Bond is set for $10,000.

According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, Kennett officers and the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department were notified early Friday morning that a dark-colored truck pulling a trailer load with aluminum pipe was traveling south on EE Highway, just north of Kennett.

Once a traffic stop was initiated, officers and deputies began to get conflicting stories from the occupants of the truck. Further investigation led officers to escort the vehicle to Dunklin County Justice Center, where Pemiscot County authorities were contacted.

After the suspects were interviewed, it was determined the irrigation pipe valued at an estimated $5,7000 was stolen from the Wardell and Hayti areas.

Local farmers were contacted by the Pemiscot County investigators who determined the stolen pipe belonged to Maclin Farms of rural Hayti and was stolen between 5 p.m. Thursday and early morning Friday.

The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office is working to prevent these thefts, Greenwell said. He asked that anyone seeing a suspicious vehicle or person to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 333-4101.
