Colon and Lambert place high in triple jump

JEFFERSON CITY - The Sikeston track and field team competed at the Class 3A state meet in Jefferson City on Friday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

After five events, Sikeston was in fourth place with 13 points.

The meet continued on Saturday. Since there will be no paper on Monday due to Memorial Day, final results will be in Tuesday's paper.

Sikeston had two top performances in the triple jump.

Junior Michael Colon finished second in the state with leap of 44'4 3/4" to become an all-stater in that event for the second year in a row.

Also, senior Andrew Lambert took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44'3 1/4" to become an all-stater for the first time.

Junior Dale Ham finished 13th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:10.91.

Neither the 4 x 100 or the 4 x 200 meter relay teams qualified for the finals. The 4 x 100 team, consisting of Tori Rose, Colon, Keena Hatcher and Felante Larry finished with the 11th fastest time at 44.88.

The 4 x 200 team just missed qualifying by finishing with the ninth fastest time at 1:32.73.

NMCC's Michael Malone did not qualify in the 100 or the 200, finishing with the 11th fastest time in each. He ran the 100 in 11.55 and the 200 in 23.44.

Dexter's Hannah Burleson failed to qualify for the finals in the 100 meter dash. She finished in 12th place with a time of 13.18.

Kennett's Tyree Goolsby had a good day, qualifying in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes. He posted the best times in the 200 and 400 meters and the second best time in the 400 meters.
