LILBOURN - Ellenora Summers Giddens, 89, died March 6, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 17, 1918, to the late Waller Nesbit and Ora Engram Summers, she was a retired elementary teacher, having taught in numerous schools, including the Dawson and St. Mary's one-room school houses. She retired from New Madrid County R-1 School District in 1979, after teaching for 30 years.

She was a loyal member of the Lilbourn Methodist Church for 63 years and loved singing in the choir. She also belonged to the United Methodist Women, serving as president several times. She was a chairperson for the American Cancer Society in New Madrid County and was a member of the Lilbourn Park Board and the Lilbourn Community Betterment Club. She was also a past Beta Sigma Phi Lady of the Year.

On Feb. 19, 1938, in St. Louis, she married Wilbur Larkin Giddens, who passed away on Feb. 28, 1992.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Felix, Waller and Thomas Charles Summers; and one sister, Ada Summers Yeakey.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dave Hill of Wentzville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Sandy Giddens of Lilbourn; three granddaughters, Laurie Wilson of Maryland Heights, Lisa Reed of Lilbourn and Courtney Giddens of Doniphan; and seven great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Richards Funeral Home in Lilbourn. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Lilbourn with Dr. Glen Bohannon and Dr. Bill Reid officiating.

Burial will follow in the City Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Dave Hill, Jim Reed, Jerry Webb Duncan, Tim Dambach, Grant Dambach and Mike Dambach.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dakota Roberts, Arnold Simpson, Collie Crouthers, Dick Twitty, Don Ashley and Jim Dambach.
