My name is Lisa Faulkner Cox and I'm serving as the new intern for the spring semester for the Sikeston and Miner Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
Since I just started this week, my first assignment was to write this article. I would like to tell you a little about what the Convention and Visitor's Bureau does and what my experience has been so far.
CVB advertises for different businesses around the Sikeston and Miner area.
So far I have helped the director, Pansy Glenn, on updating the Calendar of Events for the 2005 year. The information that goes into the Calendar of Events includes activities from various businesses in the Sikeston and Miner area. Some of these include the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, SACC events, American Legion events, Bootheel Golf Club events, Sikeston Recreational Complex events and many others.
We are also working on updating the hospitality guides that are located in every hotel in Sikeston and Miner. The information that will be used in these hospitality guides includes adventure and action attractions, cultural attractions, family entertainment, golf clubs, historic sites and attractions, night life, parks and recreation, shopping, and restaurants.
I will also be going around to different restaurants asking for menus so we can place these in the hospitality guides as well. All of this information will help visitors enjoy their stay in the area and hopefully return.
If you have any information or events that you would like placed in the Calendar of Events or in the Hospitality Guides to help advertise your business please contact the Sikeston-Miner Convention and Visitors Bureau at 471-6362.
