Bridge work planned

Thursday, November 10, 2005

SIKESTON - Early next year, those traveling Interstate 57 in Scott County should expect some delays as bridges are replaced.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract during its regular meeting Wednesday to replace twin bridges on I-57 in Scott County. The $2,379,861 contract was awarded to Robertson Contractors Inc. of Poplar Bluff.

The project includes replacing both the northbound and southbound I-57 bridges over North Cut Ditch. The bridges are located a half-mile east of I

-55.

During construction, traffic will be switched to a temporary bypass while one bridge is replaced. Once that work is completed, the remaining lanes of traffic will be switched to the bypass while the second bridge is replaced.

Work on the project is anticipated to get under way early next year with completion in December 2006.
