New Hamburg boy drowns

NEW HAMBURG -- A teenager drowned over the weekend in a private farm pond while trying to retrieve a paddle, the Missouri State Water Patrol said Monday.

Brandon Sandvos, 13, of New Hamburg, drowned in water roughly 9 feet deep after apparently jumping from a homemade raft about 3:20 p.m. Sunday, the water patrol said.

His body was found about four hours later about 30 yards from shore, authorities said.
