SIKESTON -- Four people are in the Scott County Jail on drug-related charges stemming from a weekend search warrant.
Arrested were, Christy Pierce, 27, of Portageville, charged with possession of a controlled substance; Connie Floyd, 43, of Sikeston, charged with attempting to distribute a controlled substance; Steve Lawrence, 39, of New Madrid, charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute; and Kathy Atkinson, 37, of Rhome, Texas, charged with drug trafficking in the first degree. Bond is set at $200,000 for Atkinson, $100,000 for Lawrence and Floyd and $50,000 for Pierce.
According to Scott County Sheriff Bill Ferrell, an ongoing narcotic investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office, assisted by officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the SEMO Drug Task Force served the search warrant in the early evening hours Saturday. During the search of the residence, officers seized approximately 30 grams of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, a large amount of currency and a handgun that was reported stolen from New Madrid County.
Ferrell said his office aggressively battles the meth problem on a daily basis and attributes the success of these investigations to devoted investigators working with very limited resources.
