MINER - Charles Franklin Powell, 88, died at 2:58 p.m. March 19, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Greenfield, Ill., son of the late Harden and Martha Wood Powell, he was of the Methodist belief. He retired as a pipefitter for Amoco Oil Company. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston.
On Sept. 12, 1947, in Bethalto, Ill., he married Beulah Tisdel who preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 1990.
Survivors include: one son, Kelley Powell of Sikeston; two sisters-in-law, Glenda Tisdel of Brighton, Ill., and Kathaleen Powell of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Seven brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Bill Koch, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.
The Missouri Military Honors Program will conduct graveside rites at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
