SIKESTON - Chaffee took the lead over all other Scott County towns this week by attaining its goal of $3,000 in the National War Fund Drive, which has been under way for the past month. Second honors go to Benton, with $800 of its $1,200 goal met. Sikeston is $1,133.62 short of its $10,000 goal.

SIKESTON - Penny Heckemeyer was crowned homecoming queen as the Sikeston Bulldogs battled to a 0-0 tie with the Jackson Indians.

CHAFFEE - The Chaffee Red Devils won the Missouri Class 1A State Football Championship. This title was never claimed by any school south of Ste. Genevieve since that time.


SIKESTON - Monday was the first legal date to open winter sports practice and the Sikeston boys basketball team began preparations for the season.

Nov. 2, 1993

CHARLESTON - Proven ownership of a television set may decide the fate on management activities at the Mississippi County Airport. Greg Moyers, fixed base operator at the airport, appeared Thursday before the County Commission. Stating his appearance was not in response to allegations made Oct. 21 by members of the SeMo Skydiving Club. He denied the allegations and offered to take and pay for a polygraph test. He also asserted that the club had taken his television from the office.


SIKESTON - Sikeston Little Theater will present the three-act play, "Murder in Company" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5, 6 and 7. The play, under the direction of Mike Marsh assisted by Dian Jarvis, will be performed at the former Sikeston Activity Center, 201 S. Kingshighway. Members of the cast include: Fay Hart, Don Merideth, Virginia Schlitt, Ed Swinney and Charles Palmer.
