SIKESTON - If you're involved in producing, marketing or distributing fresh fruits and vegetables, plan to attend the Marketing and Food Safety Workshop on Dec. 3 at the Raudmont Hotel in Sikeston.
The workshop, which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is designed to increase awareness of food safety issues and show how safe practices can lead to successful marketing strategies.
"Food safety issues are becoming more important as today's consumers become more informed about the food they purchase," said Deanne Hackman, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture's Ag Business Development Division, a co-sponsor of the workshop. "Paying special attention to food safety issues -- from preventing produce contamination to proper worker hygiene -- will give producers an edge when they go to market their goods to buyers."
Vegetable and fruit producers, members of grower cooperatives, farmers' market producers and wholesale produce growers and distributors are encouraged to attend.
Registration is $10, which includes handouts, lunch and snacks. To register or for more information, contact Van Ayers at the Stoddard County University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Office at 573-568-3344 or e-mail email@example.com.
The workshop is co-sponsored by Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, University of Missouri Outreach and Extension, the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Missouri Vegetable Growers' Association.
