SIKESTON - Anna Lorene Johnson Looney, 73, formerly of Lilbourn, died Dec. 17, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 8, 1930, at Martin, Ky., daughter of the late Ed W. and Susan Barnes Johnson, she was a 1958 graduate of Lilbourn High School where she received the Journalism Award for her work on the school newspaper, "The Torch." In addition to being a homemaker, Lorene was a very active Christian worker teaching Sunday school, Bible school and serving on church boards and committees. She was a member of the First Church of God in Lilbourn and, for the past few years after residing in Sikeston, Tanner Street Church of God.
On Dec. 11, 1953, at Marston, she married W.H. "Junior" Looney who preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1989.
She is survived by her beloved son, Marcus Lynn Looney of Sikeston; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Clyde L. Tatum of Jackson; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Elmo and Louise Johnson of Portageville, Grey Johnson and Charles "Chug" and Beverly Johnson of Lilbourn and Billy D. Johnson of Kansas City; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson of Sikeston and Annette Johnson of Lilbourn.
Lorene was a beloved aunt and great-aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. She had many friends and family members who loved her dearly.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, her twin, Sgt. Lawrence "Butterball" Johnson, Richard E. "Dick" Johnson and Vermont "Monte" Johnson.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Jimmy Johnson, pastor of the Cottonwood Point Baptist Church, and the Rev. Carl Addison, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Scott Riley, Ronnie May, Jacob May, Jacob Johnson, Zach Johnson and David Tatum.
