NORFOLK, Va. - Capt. H. Spencer Matthew Jr., son of Mrs. Flora Matthews of Sikeston and the late H.S. Matthews Sr., has taken the helm as commanding officer of the Navy amphibious ship USS Hermitage.

SIKESTON - Joe Dye of Sikeston was appointed by Gov. Warren Hearnes to a six-year term on the board of regents at Southeast Missouri State College. The appointment was announced by the governor Wednesday afternoon.

SIKESTON - Projecting a budget deficit of nearly $150,000 the Sikeston City Council has directed the city manager to continue a budget-cutting process. City Manager Dan Ward is scheduled to present the budget for fiscal year 1988 to the Sikeston City Council at a special council meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. at the City Municipal Building.

SIKESTON - Expected to be completed in late 1998, the I-55 interchange at Route HH will mean three interchanges along the route in Scott County, directing the flow of economic development expected to follow. Route HH, and a small part of ZZ, will be widen from 20 to 24 feet and include paved shoulders.


SIKESTON - Jeff Reynolds received a plaque for outstanding service as Cub master from 1992-1997 by the new Cub master, Shon Stratman. Reynolds served as Cub master for Cub Scout Pack 140 sponsored by the Matthews Elementary School PTO in Sikeston. Jennifer Reynolds received an outstanding service award as den leader and public relations coordinator for her service to Cub Scout Pack 140.
