The Sikeston tennis team dropped to 3-3 on the season with a 5-4 loss to Poplar Bluff on Wednesday.
"Poplar Bluff is much improved team - their top three are plenty tough and they have that good doubles team that went to state last year," said Sikeston tennis coach Brian James. "We beat them last week by the same score and it could've gone either way. It could've gone either way today too."
Sikeston got wins in singles matches from Stephen Pobst, who beat Kandarp Bhatt 8-2; Peter Jones, who beat Ryan Clark 8-2; and Aaron Senter, who beat Nathan Killpack 8-1.
Sikeston's Garrett Lambert and Senter won their doubles match over Killpack and Clark 8-0.
In other matches, Poplar Bluff's Josh Riggs beat Adam Hahs 8-5, Jitse Dehaan beat Ryne Vickery 8-3, Youseph Haiderzad beat Lambert 8-5.
The doubles team of Bhatt and Riggs beat Pobst and Hahs 8-6 and Dehaan and Haiderzad beat Vickery and Jones 8-5.
Sikeston lost the junior varsity match 4-2. Winners for Sikeston were Kyle Weeks in singles at 6-2. In doubles, Logan Wagoner and Ryan Dukes won 6-1.
