SIKESTON - Fred Mainord, who had been a prisoner of the German government since last November was liberated by the Russians on April 23, he notified his sister, Mrs. Ernest Kellett in a letter received Tuesday.
SIKESTON - Tuesday night the Sikeston Extension Club met in the home of the club president, Mrs. Carl Campbell with 10 members and two guests present. After the business meeting, Miss Mary Ann Finch, home economist, gave the club an education lesson on children's toys, pointing out the importance of safety, durability and appropriateness when selecting a child's toy.
SIKESTON - The license bureau office in Sikeston will be moving at the end of this week. The office, now located on East Malone Avenue, will close Friday at that location and open Tuesday at the Kingsway Mall, according to Terry Cole, who operates the local office. On Monday, the office will be closed because of the Memorial Day holiday. At the mall, the office will be located in the short hallway between the mall interior and inside entrance to Radio Shack.

SIKESTON - Oakville's Tigers don't beat themselves - and Sikeston's Bulldogs will try to make them do just that. That's how Thursday's 4A section high school baseball game between the two clubs appears to shape up.
SIKESTON - There were 327 students at the Sikeston Middle School completing and graduating from the DARE program conducted by Officer Shirley Smith. The students completed 17 weeks working in the areas of self-
esteem, peer pressure, alternatives to taking drugs and team work. Amanda Thomas, Katrina Amos, Kelly Heironimus, Ryan Shirkey, Erica Barnett and Rachel Leist presented essays at the graduation ceremony.
JEFFERSON CITY - State education officials have chosen 330 gifted high school sophomores to attend the 1995 Missouri Scholars Academy at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Area students who will participate include Kristen Babb of Charleston High School; William A. Fix of New Madrid County Central High School; Jessica D. Heironimus and Kelly A. Moss of Sikeston Senior High School; Tori E. Patterson of Oran High School; and Ashley S. Perry of Bloomfield High School.
