BLOOMFIELD -- Mary Kathleen "Kay" Corbin, 93, died Aug. 15, 2005, at Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter.

Born March 23, 1912, in Bloomfield, to the late Charles and Zelma Jackson Maupin, she was a lifelong resident of Bloomfield. Mrs. Corbin attended Bloomfield Schools and Stephens College. She served as secretary to the late Judge George Munger and for many years was secretary to the superintendent of Bloomfield schools.

Mrs. Corbin was active in civic, community and church affairs. She was a member of the WMU, member and past president of Chapter DZ, PEO and served as district president of PEO. She taught Sunday school many years and was the organist at First Baptist Church in Bloomfield for several years. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. Mrs. Corbin was enthusiastic about keeping Bloomfield and Stoddard County history alive. She supplied historians with accounts, pictures and documents of early Bloomfield. She was the great-granddaughter of early settlers of the Dexter area, Sybie and David Crites.

On March 3, 1935, she married Alvin M. Corbin. They owned and operated Corbin's Cleaning and Clothing in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1993.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Ann Cox of Dexter and Carolyn Clay of Sikeston; four grandchildren, Ron Cox and Kristi Strong of Dexter, Michelle Shelton of St. Louis and Rob Clay of Sikeston; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Edna Maupin of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and other relatives and many friends.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Hensley; and a brother, C.J. Maupin.

Friends may call from noon Wednesday until time for services at 1 p.m. at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The Rev. Mike Watkins will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
