CHAFFEE -- Lawrence Burl Hooker, 77, died May 22, 2005, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Nov. 1, 1928, in Chaffee, son of the late Lawrence Vylie and Hattie Viola Thomas Hooker, he retired as a brakeman and conductor for Frisco Railroad, later Burlington Northern Railway, in Chaffee, where he worked from 1950
-1987. He was a member of Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810, Chaffee High School Alumni Association, Raney Farm Board, Boy Scout Order of Arrow and Woodbadge and UTU. He was also a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as board member, elder and trustee.
On Jan. 24, 1949, he married Joy Dobbs who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Sonny Hooker of Benton, La., and David Hooker of Chaffee; two daughters, Susan Nelson of Flemington and Patty Krieg of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Jimmy Hooker of Crystal River, Fla.; four sisters, Helen Eichhorn, Renda Heady and Camilla Jean Madison of Inverness, Fla., and Mary Frances Harmon of Tampa, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
One sister preceded him in death.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee with a Chaffee Elks service at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating.
Burial will follow in the Union Park Cemetery.
