SIKESTON - Edwin McAmis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Z.E. McAmis, appeared in a piano recital last Friday night at the home of his instructor, Mrs. O.T. Elder, on North Ranney. His sister, Ann, contributed a solo to the program.
LILBOURN - Glenda Barnes, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Barnes of Lilbourn, was presented the James C. Tope Memorial Scholarship for the 1964-65 school year at an awards assembly held last week in the Lilbourn High School Gymnasium.
MOREHOUSE - Baccalaureate services for 28 seniors and 31 eighth graders were held Sunday night at the Morehouse High School gym. The Baccalaureate sermon was given by the Rev. James Estep, pastor of the Rauch-Spence Memorial Methodist Church in Morehouse.
BENTON - Friday and Saturday were days filled with festivity at the first Benton Maifest. The event was conducted at the Benton exit of Interstate 55 at the Moore-Dupont Winery, Diebold Orchards and Roberts' Banquet Hall.
CHAFFEE - Thursday's heavy dark clouds produced more than rain - a tornado damaged a home in the north end of the county. Also a funnel cloud spotted in New Madrid County put officials on alert. The tornado that roared through the rural Chaffee area Thursday afternoon destroyed many barns and damaged the home of David Landewee. The Landewees, who had taken shelter in their home, were not injured in the storm.
SIKESTON - Scott Central High School Senior Class President Tywon Hamilton will preside over the commencement ceremony beginning at 8 p.m. today. Donald Mosley will present the invocation and Anita Bruce will read the class poem, "Class of 1995." Valedictorian Sarah Northern will speak on "The Doorway" and the title of salutatorian Hamilton's speech is "From Within."
