BERTRAND -- Lora Mae Meeks, 77, died at 1:50 p.m. Dec. 7, 2007, at her home.
Born Oct. 8, 1930, in St. Louis, daughter of the late James Loren and Ora Lee Morehead Maxwell, she had lived her entire life in Scott and Mississippi counties and for over 57 years in Bertrand. She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Charleston where she served in the Ladies Aide Society and had taught Sunday school for over 30 years.
On April 7, 1950, she married the Rev. Billy Joe Meeks who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Garry Joe Meeks of Bertrand and Daniel "Boo" and Jackie Meeks of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bruce Groves of Bertrand; one brother, Bob Maxwell of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Doris Bone of Charleston and Louise Sweet of Bertrand; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, one sister, Jeanne Burchfield, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today at the First General Baptist Church on West Ashby Street in Charleston where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Bob Bradford, pastor of the Randles General Baptist Church, and the Rev. James Brown, co-pastor of the First General Baptist Church of Charleston, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
The McMikle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
Pallbearers will be: Josh Baker, Keith McKinney, Jamie Meeks, Jason Pickett, Maxwell Sweet and Tony Sweet.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Humphrey, Jeff Humphrey, Philip Warren and Homer Baker.
