SIKESTON -- A Haywood City man is in custody for drug charges following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase early Tuesday morning.
Tyrone McClinton, 34, was charged.
According to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, when Officer Bobby Penrod was patrolling near the downtown area. He witnessed a vehicle running a stop sign and attempted to pull it over.
Penrod activated his lights and siren near Stoddard and Malone streets, but the driver, McClinton, refused to stop. The officer continued the pursuit, eastbound of the area. The suspect finally stopped on South Prairie Street, where McClinton jumped out of the car and ran on foot. Penrod pursued him on foot as other officers responded to help. McClinton was arrested shortly after, in the 300 block of East Kathleen.
After searching McClinton and his vehicle, officers located more than 2.5 ounces of marijuana and some other contraband.
McClinton was charged by Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd for miscellaneous traffic violations, driving while revoked, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
He was issued a $50,000 cash-only bond for these offenses. As of press time, McClinton remained in custody, awaiting his arraignment.
