CHARLESTON - At the monthly luncheon meeting of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, it was announced by the retiring president David Rowling that James Moran would be president for the year 1965.

SIKESTON - Its not easy breaking into the Nashville music circles. Former Sikeston resident Jason Hawkins is beginning to make headway, though. Despite a successful tour of Europe and being the top artist on European Country Charts for a record number of 56 weeks, Hawkins admits he still has a way to go to make his name well-known among county music fans.

SIKESTON - To combat a growing number of false alarms, the City of Sikeston will begin strictly enforcing a already established ordinance. A partial expense reimbursement to the city in the amount of $35 per occurrence shall be paid by the subscriber for each false alarm." After the seventh false alarm, the amount goes up to $50. The enforcement became necessary after City Manager Steve Borgsmiller was made aware that some businesses had as many as 70 to 80 false alarms in one year.


SIKESTON - The Scott County Unit of the American Cancer Society recently honored the major contributors to the charity at the Ambassador of Hope Awards reception. The ACS event took place at the Sikeston home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hux Jr.
