Robert Hunter
EAST PRAIRIE - Robert H. Hunter, 85, died at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 23, 2005, in the Naples (Fla.) Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1920, near East Prairie, son of the late Robert William and Susie Mae Woodward Hunter, he lived in East Prairie most of his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as postmaster for the East Prairie Post Office and was a member of Nelson United Methodist Church.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Roberta Lea Conn who preceded him in death Oct. 5, 1997.
Also preceding him in death were infant twins, Robert Horrell Hunter and Roberta Conn Hunter; three brothers, Hal "Buster" Hunter, Richard W. Hunter and an infant brother; and five sisters, Susie Aycock, Amanda DeField, Lela Hart and infant twin sisters.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Kenton Craig and Susan Jane Hunter of Centennial, Colo.; one sister, Ruth Wilson of Sikeston; and two grandchildren, Allison Claire Renken of Grand Junction, Colo., and Emily Amanda Hunter of Centennial.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Jim Quist will officiate.
Brown Twitty American Legion Post 595 of New Madrid will conduct graveside military rites at East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: John Aycock, Robert W. Hunter, J.R. Hunter, Tom Hart, Jim Sides and Taylor Dial.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Noone Bruce, Bill Adkison, Marion Waggoner, Earl D. Simpkins, George Roberts, Glen Tenkoff, Roy Wilburn, Warren Hearnes, Joe Watson, Dr. J.D. Heath, Norbert Halter, Mike Hogan, Jack Emory, Richard Falkoff, Avery Hutcheson, Joel Sorrells, Bill Ponder and Steve Hodges.
