Dominitrix Johnson helped lead Bell City to a title.
BELL CITY - Bell City clinching its second Class 1 state championship in three years didn't come as that great of a shock.

But it was the way they did it and the exploits of ultra talented point guard Dominitrix Johnson that stood out.

Bell City didn't just win a state championship. They dominated.

The Cubs rolled to a 67-50 district championship victory against Delta and never looked back.

Perhaps the Cubs' toughest test came from a team just a short drive away in Scott County Central in a sectional game.

After a tough battle, Bell City was able to hang on to defeat the Braves 59-54 in front of a capacity crowd at the Sikeston Field House.

From there, the hard part was over.

Bell City totally annihilated everyone in their path to the state championship.

It started with a 67-40 quarterfinal victory against defending state champion Verona. The Cubs then took out Bevier 79-49 in a Class 1 semifinal game.

The Cubs clinched the state title with a 74-62 victory against St. Elizabeth behind a 40-point performance from Johnson.

"Dom's" performance in the title game was submitted to Sports Illustrated where he was featured in the Faces in the Crowd section.

Johnson, perhaps the greatest player in Bell City history, signed to play with Three Rivers Community College.
