Letter to the Editor

Your view: A complaint

Thursday, May 5, 2005

Dear Editor,

I would like to ask the Standard Democrat staff to take more care when publishing letters to the editor. My letter that was published April 21 contained three printing errors. "It" became "is", "legislature" became "legislation", and the phrase "They are merely lawyers in black robes who have their own personal bias..." was printed as, "They are merely personal bias..." These errors interrupted the flow of thought and were distracting.

When I was growing up in school, I was taught that we can make a difference when we vote. It is disheartening to see a judge nullify the wishes of the voters and invent a "right" to strike down a law, especially when this "right" does not exist anywhere plainly in the Constitution. Judges frequently strike down laws that are passed by the wishes of the people using this pretext. I am very passionate about holding the judicial branch accountable, and restoring out government to one that is "of the people, by the people and for the people."
