SIKESTON - A Sikeston native who has seen service as a Marine in East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq is the featured speaker at the community's Veterans' Day program. The ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Sikeston Field House.

Marine Corps Capt. Greg Blanton, the son of Judge Lewis and Barbara Blanton of Sikeston, will address the students and public attending the ceremony.

A 1991 graduate of Sikeston High School, Blanton received his degree from Yale University in 1996. After completing officers candidate school, Blanton was commissioned into the Marine Corps in April 1997.

His tenure with the Corps has included serving in support of several major deployments. Blanton took part in "Operation Stabilize" in East Timor, "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan and "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in Iraq.

During the Veterans' Day program, Blanton will be introduced by his uncle, Dr. Joe Blanton, a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Other participants will include the Sikeston High School band, choir and orchestra and local veterans from the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars posts. The Sikeston National Guard will provide the posting of the colors and the 21-gun salute.

Following the ceremony, veterans and their families are invited to the American Legion Post on South Kingshighway where lunch will be provided by the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
