Speakout 8/22

Monday, August 22, 2005

I am a concerned citizen that lives in Charleston, Missouri. We do have a sanitation contract in place. My question is what good is a contract if the people voted and get it and took the job, what good is it if they don't follow the contract? We are suppose to have back-alley service, and we don't have that any longer. They have this newfangled truck that comes along the curb, checks the can in your front yard, blows it over and dumps it. It almost tears the can up before they put it back on the ground. We have always had back-

alley service in the past. This new truck comes along and now they no longer have that service. The contract states that we do but they no longer abide by it.

I was really surprised in Wednesday's paper when I was reading Speakout. I was reading about these men raping the little girl and they not doing anything about it. They were talking about they should castrate them because years ago that it what stopped them. I've been thinking the same thing. I hope they start doing it because that will stop them.

The Rev. Joe Light was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate. Everyone was expecting the usual generalities but this is what they heard: Heavenly father we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know word says, Woe to those who call evil good. Because that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and lost our spiritual values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us oh God and know our hearts today. Cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen. The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest.

I just have a question. I have asked several people what those buildings are behind Walgreen's. Would you please put that in the paper. I know that there are several people who don't know what is going in there.

According to a spokesman with Coleman Properties which is developing the site, the buildings will be mostly retail shops, however the buildings have not been leased yet. Construction should be completed about the middle October with announcement of the new businesses to follow.

I want on disability and I need some advice and dos and don'ts from the pros. Should I go to the doctor on a walker and crutches and pretend I don't know where I am at? Should I complain with terrific pain and flashbacks of World War II? I got over those since there wasn't any compensation for those back in those days. All of this would be hard for me to do since I'm 84 and work every day. Oh well, more power to you people who can fool the system.

I was reading the Sunday paper today. The article about the power plant in Southern Illinois and the Fish and Wildlife people down at Mingo. It is a shame that this Sandra Silva, head of Fish and Wildlife Air Quality branch, has to get on this paper and explain what it is going to do to the environment and stuff. They need to pay attention to what they are doing and leave the other parts of the country alone. The Fish and Wildlife is getting out of hand with their rules and regulations. The people don't start paying attention to this they are really going to get a surprise by what the Fish and Wildlife area is doing to our country.

I just read your Speakout in the Sunday's paper and they were talking about Social Security fraud and everything. What people don't realize is like myself, I am considered disabled. I got hurt working. All I draw is $594 Social Security, not SSI but Social Security, but I am allowed to work to make $600 more a month. After that they will deduct $1 for every $3 I make out of my Social Security check. I work on my own so I can work at my own pace. I could not work a 40 hour job, sometimes I work 15 hour job and everything. That is what people need to realize. Just because you are considered disabled, that doesn't mean you can not work. Like myself, I could never hold down a 40 hour job but at times can work 15 to 20 hours a week and you cannot support your family on that. I got hurt on the job. A lot of other people I know there is fraud going on but Social Security is very strict. I went through three doctors, not doctors around Sikeston, St. Louis and Memphis, before I even started drawing my Social Security. I think a lot of these people are jealous. I think a lot of people just don't understand what disabled means. Some people can work and some people cannot work. That is the law. I think there are a lot of problems like Mike said, like stress. I think that is a bunch of crap. If you have true disability and it shows on MRIs and everything, then just quit worrying about it, worry about yourself and your family.
