SIKESTON -- The first day of filing for elected city positions in Sikeston and Charleston closed today with only incumbents throwing their names into the hat.
The last day to file in these municipalities for the April 4 election is Nov. 22.
In Sikeston, the incumbents for all three of the city positions to be filled put their names in for another three years in office.
"Mike Marshall filed for mayor, Jim Terrell filed for councilman, Ward 2, and David Teachout just filed for councilman, Ward 3," said Sikeston City Clerk Carroll Couch.
In Charleston, two city council seats are up for grabs.
Incumbent James D. Conn has filed for another term, according to Charleston City Clerk Marsha Hart.
The other seat is presently held by Michael Jones who has not filed yet.
If more than two candidates file for any one position in Sikeston or Charleston, that city will hold a primary election Feb. 7.
Filing for other municipalities and school boards opens Dec. 13 and closes Jan. 17.
