DEXTER - Lela G. Marquis, 87, died July 31, 2005, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Bloomfield.
Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Dyer, Tenn., daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Mae Warren Duck, she had lived in Malden until 1954 when she moved to Dexter. She retired from Elder Manufacturing where she was a seamstress for over 30 years.
On Oct. 24, 1953, in Bernie, she married Joe Marquis who preceded her in death on May 24, 1996.
Also two brothers, Harvey Duck and Robert Duck, preceded her in death.
Survivors include: four sons, Wayne Marquis of Poplar Bluff, James Wheatley of Severn, Md., Paul Wheatley of Memphis, Tenn., and Elbert Wheatley of Piedmont; two daughters, Betty Owens and Pat Batten of Dexter; one brother, Bill Duck of Jackson; and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Lester Clayton of Dexter will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Sadler's Chapel Cemetery near Dexter.
