ORAN -- The high-flying Eagles, the third-ranked team in the Missouri Class 1 high school poll, tangle with perennial sectional opponent North Pemiscot on Wednesday.

Oran (20-3) has met the Mustangs (16-4) three times before in sectional competition, the most recent being last season when the Eagles squeezed out a 3-2 win in eight innings, on the way to state runners-up.

This season North Pemiscot, located in Wardell, advanced with a 4-1 win over Holcomb in District 1, while Oran shelled Advance 10-0 in five innings for its third straight District 2 title.

North Pemiscot fell to Oran 7-0 in an early-season contest.

"That game was a lot closer than the score indicated," said Oran coach Mitch Wood. "It was a 2-0 game until the sixth inning."

Oran, with a team batting average of .374, brings a relentless offensive attack to the diamond. Six Eagles have 20 or more runs batted in, led by senior Garrett Roslen with 34 to go with a .392 average and a team-leading four home runs.

Senior Matt Seyer is the high average hitter at .506 as well as the top pitcher with a 7-2 record and two saves.

Trevor Irwin (.457), Joey Williams (.379), Paul Bucher (.360) and freshman Chase Seyer (.356) are the other leading hitters.

After about a week off for graduation activities, the Eagles resumed practice on Monday.

"The kids came out today ready to play," said Wood, "(We) had a good practice and, hopefully, we'll have another good one tomorrow."

Oran hosts the sectional game today at 4 p.m.
