Sikeston athletes perform well in Hershey Track meet
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Sikeston competitors performed well in the qualifying round of the Hershey Track and Field Youth Meet held at Cape Central Junior High School on Saturday.
Youth, ages 9 to 14, participated in the 80-, 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, 800-meter run, standing long jump and softball throw.
Dominic Fondon was a double winner with victories in the 100 and 200 in the boys 13-14 division, with times of 12.46 seconds and 26.37 seconds, respectively.
Demetrius Jackson took first place in the boys 13-14 standing long jump event and Sikeston youth won four softball throw titles: Jerome Combs (boys 13-14), Brittney Turner (girls 13-14), Xavia Shurn (boys 11-12) and Vashawn Ruffin (boys 9-10).
All first-place finishers advance to the Missouri State Championships in Jefferson City on June 25
