A blitz to boost SACC
Well fall is in the air and the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for our annual November events.
But first I would like to congratulate the winners of our Ninth Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest we co-sponsored with the Sikeston Elks Lodge. The winners in the Drug Awareness category were Southeast Elementary Make A Difference Club and the Sikeston Junior High Art Club. In the Scariest category, the winner was Brownie Girl Scout Troop 3 and the Creative category winner was Daisy Girl Scout Troop 46. Again congratulations to our winners.
I would also like to thank the businesses and individuals who made the Lifetime Achievement Award Roast honoring Harold Jones such a nice evening. The following businesses showcased delicious appetizers and desserts: Applebee's, Burch-Springs, Cheers, Dexter Bar-B-Que, Jeremiah's Lambert's, Malone Avenue Grill, Rebecca Sharp Catering, Rodchester's Deli, Ryan's Family Steak House, Susie's, Trisha's Catering, Wal-Mart and West Ridge Place. I would also like to thank Garden Lane, Helen's Florist, Wal-Mart and Manpower for their help with decorations.
Now as we move into November we are working on our Membership Blitz Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4. We will have SACC members contacting area businesses about Chamber membership and its benefits. If you are interested in joining the Chamber you don't have to wait for a member to call you, just contact one of the SACC staff to get started.
The Chamber's Agribusiness Committee is busy working on the 33rd Annual Farmer's Recognition Banquet. We will be honoring farm families from Stoddard, New Madrid, Mississippi and Scott counties at the banquet scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, at the RaudMont Inn in Miner. The evening's festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m.
If you have never attended this event you need to come out for it is an evening of good food, good company and fun. The Sikeston Public School System is once again producing a video featuring the farming operations of each of the winners.
There will be an auction and a raffle for a peddle tractor donated by Nelson Equipment. Proceeds from these events will fund the SACC Scott Waters Memorial Agribusiness Scholarship that is awarded a graduating senior FFA member at Sikeston Senior High School.
We at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to be a part of this recognition of our farming community and we hope others will come out and join us in the celebration. Tickets are available at the Chamber office for $15 per person and raffle tickets for the peddle tractor are also available at the Chamber office.
