Chaffee spikers defeated

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee's volleyball team was defeated by Cape Central on Tuesday night in three sets.

The Lady Red Devils lost the first set 4-15, won the second 15-6, then lost the third 8-15.

"We came out tonight and faced a hungry Cape team," said Chaffee coach David Mirly. "They wanted it just a little more than we did. Hopefully we can bounce back against Poplar Bluff tomorrow."

Jennifer Vandeven checked in with five blocks, nine digs, nine kills, four points and three aces. Molly Fowler had nine digs, one kill, two points and one ace. Ashton Lee had one block, 23 assists, one dig, six points and five aces.

Ashley Graham had seven digs, four kills, three points and three aces.

Natalie Townsend had 13 digs, four kills, three points and two aces.

Mallory Kiefer had five digs, one kill, nine points and four aces.

Lindsey Everett had three kills and Samantha Hendrix contributed one.

Chaffee (3-9) will host Poplar Bluff tonight at 6 p.m.

PORTAGEVILLE -- Portageville's volleyball team was defeated by Gideon in straight sets on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs lost the first set 8-15, then the second 10-15.

Portageville won the junior varsity match in three.

After losing the first set 8-15, the Lady Bulldogs won the second 15-8, then the third 15-10.

Sikeston's varsity (9-11) will host Charleston on Monday night.
