PEORIA, Ill. - Noel N. Melton Sr., 67, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 4:01 p.m. Nov. 6, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1936, in Almyra, Ark., son of the late Howard L. and Elena Reynolds Melton, he was a graduate of Sikeston High School where he was a member of the football team. An Air National Guard veteran of the Korean War, he was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Before moving to Peoria, he was a route man for Rice Dairy and was a drywall installer with Carpenters Union 187 before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the El Vista Baptist Church in Peoria.
On Feb. 15, 1958, he married Patsy Hornback who preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2000.
Survivors include: three sons, Noel Melton Jr. and Harold Melton of Peoria and Bruce Melton of Twin Falls, Idaho; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Michael Moore of Bartonville, Melinda and David Wheeler of Cambria and Virginia and Richard Wissler of Washington; two brothers, Howard Melton and Charles Melton of Sikeston; three sisters, Opal Jeffers of Dayton, Ohio, Juanita Myek of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jerry Haller of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Rosemary Alexander of Chillicothe.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Clark Melton; one brother, Benny J. Melton; and two sisters.
Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. today at the Abts Mortuary in Peoria with the Rev. Jerry Palmer officiating.
Cremation will follow.
Graveside memorial rites will be conducted at a later date at the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie, Mo.
