Speakout 5-19

Why was the BMX track taken out of the Complex? It used to be there several years ago. I think it would be a great thing to have again for our youth so they could enjoy a safe sporting event instead of riding in the streets. I'm sure a lot of parents would be interested in having their child involved in a racing program for possibly a small membership fee. Can you tell me who would be in charge or the name of the group that used to have it? I believe there would be a lot of kids that would stay out of trouble and would keep from getting hit by cars as they try to race through the alleys and streets.

We called Jerry Freshour with your question. "I ran it for the last seven years to keep it from going under and it finally wore me out. The city tried to find someone to run it after I left, but was unsuccessful. There just wasn't enough interest to keep it going."

Who authorizes the Sikeston swimming pool to be shut down for a weekend for the exclusive use of the swim team, whereby depriving the public access to the pool?

Sikeston Parks and Recreation Director Jiggs Moore said, "The swim team pays a rental fee for the use of the swiming pool. As part of that rental fee, they are authorized by the city to hold up to two home meets per season. These meets are one day in duration and in most cases, the pool is open to the public the same evening. Membership on the swim team is open to the public."

To the SpeakOut response about taxpayers paying for a stadium, if you did not have your head under the dirt like a hungry bird you would have learned by now that only the people who use the stadium will be taxed. The Cardinals pay the rest. Also I would guess that you have not traveled north of Sikeston in the last year or you would also have not been so stupid as not to notice that I-55 is being worked on. It is impossible for you to have driven the interstate in Arkansas between Memphis and Little Rock or you would realize just how smooth I-55 is. Your problem with Mr. Kinder is that he is not who you wanted in office. You voted the other ticket. I support a new stadium, I support improving I-55. I also support the facts. Get your facts right or shut the hell up.

I am trying to find out some information dating back around March 2001. Can you find out if there were any robberies or break-ins of any kind that someone has reported baseball cards of a baseball card collection being stolen? I think I may have found them and would like to return them to the rightful owner. If there has been a report and the person can give me certain information about the collection, please leave a number in SpeakOut so I can call you back.
