CHAFFEE - Ruth Allene Buckhannon passed away Nov. 6, 2003, at Southeast Hospital with daughters Darla and Wilmajo at her side.

Born Nov. 24, 1908, at St. Louis, daughter of the late Walter P. and Elizabeth Stausing Masters, she graduated from Chaffee High School and attended Will Mayfield College in Marble Hill. She was the first female employed by the First National Bank of Chaffee and assisted in the organization of The Bank of Chaffee in 1931, becoming their first assistant cashier. She was a secretary of First Baptist Church of Chaffee for 25 years, financial secretary for 34 years, WMU director for 12 years and YWA leader for four years. Mrs. B worked with the Girl Scouts and Brownie troops for a number of years. She also played the violin and taught piano. A member of the Chaffee Business and Professional Women's Club, she was honored in 1984 as "Woman of the Year."

On June 21, 1939, she married William J. Buckhannon who preceded her in death on April 9, 1967.

Survivors include: four daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn Louise and Bill Hawkins of Dothan, Ala., Ruth Ann Welborn of San Marco, Texas, Darla D'Lizabeth Buckhannon and her special friend Richard Britain of Dallas, Texas, and Wilmajo and Don Rutz of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Karin Hawkins of Indianapolis, Ind., Kristin and her husband Terry Daugherty of Springboro, Ohio, and Travis and his wife Kelley Buckhannon Jones of Melbourne, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Megan Daugherty and Kari Daugherty of Springboro, Ohio, and Tyler Jones of Melbourne, Fla.; and one niece and three nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mardell Finney; and one stepson, Wayne J. Buckhannon.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Chaffee with the Rev. Cliff Day officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
