SIKESTON - Lee Austin Bowman, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Congressional Action Committee, announced to date the following candidates have accepted an invitation for the Thursday luncheon meeting: Les Lankford, Harris Rodgers, Dan Norton, Phil Waldman, Hess Porter and Jerry Briggs.

SIKESTON - Efforts to combat soil erosion in the state will be overseen by a new state Soil and Water District Commission which includes a Sikeston man. John Byrd of Sikeston is one of five new commissioners appointed. All of the new commissioners are farmers and four are active in their county soil and water conservation districts.

SIKESTON - Despite losing their first game in the Sikeston Invitational Tournament, the Sikeston All-Stars have battled their way back from near elimination all week and will try to complete their comeback Friday.

SIKESTON - There was one game at the Sikeston Sports Complex Monday. The Jaycees defeated House of Color, 13-10, in girl's softball, A grand slam home run by Crystal Lennon of House of Color wasn't enough to stop the Jaycees team.

BENTON - The Scott County grand jury came to an end July 1, but not before handing down 57 felony indictments. And that record spells success, according to Scott County Prosecuting Attorney David Dolan. The grand jury met 13 times this year and Dolan hopes to convene another grand jury in September.
