Murakami races to Super Pro victory at drag strip

SIKESTON DRAG STRIP

SIKESTON -- Mark Murakami, of Cape Girardeau, posted his first Super Pro win of the season at the Sikeston Drag Strip. With a 6.22 dial, he ran 6.22 at 108 m.p.h. His reaction time was .513.

Second place went to Ronnie Egner, of Mayfield. He ran 5.74 on a 5.74 dial at 122 m.p.h. His reaction time was .516. In the Pro class, St. Louis' Mike Vishino took top honors. With a 6.76 dial, he ran 6.77 at 100 m.p.h. His reaction time was .547. Second place went to Rick Thomas, also of St. Louis. Thomas ran 6.51 on a 6.50 dial at 100 m.p.h. His reaction time was .559.

In the E.T. Class, Paul Zinzilieta, from Mt. Vernon, Ill., took first place. With a 7.83 dial, he ran 7.84 at 85 m.p.h. His reaction time was .558. Second place went to Floyd Foreman of Sikeston. he ran 8.56 on a 8.57 dial at 80 m.p.h. His reaction time was .591.

MALDEN SPEEDWAY

MALDEN -- The Malden Speedway concluded its 2003 season with the 2nd Annual Cotton Boll Cup. Including late additions, there were a track record 160 cars from 7 states entered in the event.

Jeff Floyd put on a show in leading all 40 laps of the $5,000 to win Late Model feature. Robby Arnold moved up from the third row to take the Modified cup. Scott Tracer took the checkered in the Hobby Stock feature.

Jared Wagster led from start to finish to take the Pure Street title. Scott Austin and Darrell Ham returned to victory lane in the Cruiser feature.
