ST. LOUIS - Alma Mayfield, 93, formerly of Sikeston, died March 18, 2005, at the Delmar Gardens in St. Louis.
Born Dec. 3, 1911, in Cape Girardeau to the late Ben H. and Nellie Bernice Bess Hinkle, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. She had been a teacher for the Scott County R-5 School District for over 35 years before retiring.
On Oct. 10, 1936, she married Martin D. Mayfield, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1987.
Survivors include: one daughter, Alma Virginia Harkey of St. Louis; two sisters, Virginia Elliott of Bellevue, Wash., and Velma Nanna of Fredericktown; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Also she was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon W. Hinkle, and three sisters, Bernice Schwab, Esther Hubbs and Thelma Stanley.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston with the Rev. Jonathan Cooney, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Old Morley Cemetery at Morley.
