NEW MADRID - Nellie Beatrice "Granny" Jones, 86, died March 17, 2005.
Born Aug. 7, 1918, in Tallassee, Ala., to the late James L. "J.D." and "Willie" Stanfield Woods, she was the mother of nine children, a homemaker and a member of the Kewanee Missionary Baptist Church and Circle of Friends.
On Aug. 29, 1936, she married James Roscoe Jones, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1971.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Jo and Shirley Jones of Kewanee, James and Sharon Jones of Sikeston, Johnny and Tammy Jones, Dewey and Joella Jones and Eddie and Christy Jones of New Madrid; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mae Bell Woodard of Polo, Bonnie and Russell Lawson of St. Louis and Barbara and Kenny Whitehead of Granite City, Ill; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Holt of Collinsville, Ill. Granny was especially proud of her 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also she is survived by one sister, Leona Jackson; one brother, Bill Woods; three sisters-
in-law, Marie Woods, Mary Francis Woods and Marie Jones and one brother-
in-law, Ras Jones.
One sister, Agnes Abernathy; and four brothers, Buddy Woods, Frank Woods, Pete Woods and T.J. Woods, preceded her in death. Also she was preceded in death by her son, Willie Richard "Dudder" Jones, and two grandsons, Richard Jones and Kyle Jones.
Under grace she lived and under grace she died. Rich in love, Granny touch many lives with her honest words and loving deeds. She will not be forgotten and we know she is now resting with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Richards Funeral Home. Jared Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
