MATTHEWS - Barnwarming King and Queen of the Matthews FFA Chapter were crowned Friday night at the annual Barnwarming held at the Matthews Community Center. Miss Lou Anna Sutton was crowned Queen of FFA and Bruce Gilmer was crowned FFA King. They were crowned by Miss Susan Buchanan and Larry Greene.


EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Seven couples from Sikeston, members of the Happy Hoofers Square Dance Club, attended the Indiana Square Dance Festival at Evansville over the weekend and returned Sunday to report a splendid time. The couples are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hutchison, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Matthews, Mr. and Mrs. John Duckett, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Crites, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hixon, Mr. and Mrs. Chic Reynolds and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Harshbarger.

SIKESTON - One obstacle stands between the Sikeston High School boys' cross country team and a state meet appearance - the 4A sectional at Jefferson Barracks Saturday. The boys, who won their berth at Jefferson Barracks by taking third place in the District 1 event at Cape Girardeau last week, will try to qualify for the Nov. 6 State.

PORTAGEVILLE - Maybe a week's vacation wasn't so beneficial after all. After grinding through its last five games by a 201-50 margin, Portageville and its momentum took a weekend off on Oct. 10 - they almost took another night off Friday against Hayti. But Portageville found its momentum in the second half for a 38-22 win.
