SpeakOut 10/1

To the person or persons who insist on assimilating false information concerning mixed breed puppies, your statement in the Sept. 17 SpeakOut is just flat out erroneous. I checked the Web sites of AKC, UKC, CKC, ACA and other registries. The latter two organizations make a little more than protective entities for puppy mill breeders and there is no, none, nada recognition of a french pub. Secondly, the business selling these dogs had a son only listing them as pugs, not french pugs. Once again, I would like to advise the public to be very wary when purchasing a pet at places like these. You may not be getting what you pay for.

There is no way you can say George W. Bush is not responsible for the 9/11 tragedy and evil is also a factor in that. But you cannot say he's not responsible. Before he ever became the president of the United States, he got on there and threatened. He said that his daddy didn't get Hussein but he would when he got into office. You do not threaten a crazy country to begin with. And about jobs, you can't buy a job right now and the world wasn't in the mess it's in right now until the Republicans got in. These people have lost all their money, the stocks have gone down. Republicans should know that because you work with money and you idolize everything you have, but you can't take it with you. Print this, Mike Jensen. Thank you.

Mike, in your Sept. 18 editorial you criticized Senator Carnahan and Governor Holden for lobbying with the unions and taking money from them. Let me get this straight. It's OK for Republicans to accept hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars from big business to lobby for their efforts, but it's wrong for the working man to lobby for who they feel is good? Also, in SpeakOut on the same day, it seems some Republican was criticizing Democrats for the elevator not going to the top. Looks like they've bottomed out again, as usual, on their elevator ride.

I would like to commend the City of Sikeston or whoever was in charge of the 9/11 wall. I think they did a wonderful job. It was very touching to go and see the display and I was quite touched by the outpouring of the people who had to work on the wall. I think it was a very appropriate thing to do. It was very heartwarming to be able to go and be a part of it.

The 9/11 Memorial Wall was sponsored by the Sikeston 9/11 Fund. Donations raised are divided equally between the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the Child and Family Recovery Program in New York City and donations are still being accepted. For more information about the Sikeston 9/11 Fund, contact Schwaninger at the Scott County Courthouse (573) 545-3549 or Tom Nunnelee at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel 471-2242. Anyone who would like to support the program can send donations to: Sikeston 9/11 Fund, P.O. Box 182, Sikeston, Mo. 63801. All contributions are tax deductible.

I'm calling in response to a Sept. 18 paper where someone said some parents are too lazy to get up and get their kids off to school. I agree. But what about the parents who do get up and send their kids to school, and the kids don't go to school? The parents are punished for that.
