SIKESTON - Fluorescent lights were being installed Monday in the lobby of the Bank of Sikeston.

BENTON - A total of 2,858 men registered in Scott County Sunday and Monday in the fourth national registration for the non-combatant service.

NEW MADRID - A manhunt for escaped prisoner Donald W. Gray involved scores of law enforcement officers, bloodhounds and an airplane from the Missouri Highway Patrol. Gray escaped last night. He is awaiting trial in the 1960 murder of Deputy Sheriff Cletus Phillips and the wounding of Sheriff W.L. "Cowboy" Ramsey.

SIKESTON - Cinderella will be produced this week for the benefit of all the elementary school students, as well as area residents, by the Sikeston Little Theater. The entire cast is made up of area students.

SIKESTON - Sikeston tapped three of its own for honors Thursday as the audience tapped their toes to the tunes of ragtime piano playing. Award recipients at the annual Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce event were Stephen Taylor, 1992 Man of the Year; Bill Ferrell, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year; and Charlie Scott, Jaycee Distinguished Service Award. Last year's Man of the Year, Dr. Max Heeb, presented Taylor's award after giving a brief history of his accomplishments.

SIKESTON - Gayle Hendrix, a comedian from Cape Girardeau, will be the keynote speaker at the Thursday ceremony to honor local volunteers. Winners of the 1992 Southwestern Bell telephone Company Volunteer Awards will be announced during a 7:30 a.m. breakfast that day at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
